The patented Tridak 'Microdot' system combines a safe, disposable, syringe-like package that cannot be accidentally actuated, with a precise, repeatable, reusable, manually actuated delivery device. This hand held dispenser allows the output volumes to be easily set anywhere within a range of approximately 500:1. Once a volume is set it can be repeated indefinitely with extreme accuracy.

To achieve this performance the 'Microdot' system combines a syringe-like fluid reservoir with a plungerless piston that seals the fluid. Eliminating the plunger that is normally attached to the syringe piston minimizes the potential of accidental actuation.

The hand held dispensing unit is comprised of a plunger that extends in precise incremental amounts each time the actuating lever shown in the illustration, is depressed. The amount that is dispensed is set by rotating the volume control knob. Dispensed volumes can range from nanoliters to milliliters . The mechanical advantage allows the viscosities of the materials to range from water-like to pastes .

In order to maintain the systems inherent safety, it is important that the syringes' piston cannot be moved by the dispensers plunger until the syringe is in place. To accomplish this the dispenser incorporates a safety interlock which leaves its plunger completely free until the ears of the syringe are completely rotated into position to secure the syringe in the dispensers body.

The current production unit can accept syringes from less than one cc to over 20 cc capacity using standard syringes or syringes with adapters.

The system can be modified to handle a variety of nonstandard and custom packages. It can also be supplied in fixed dispense volume units . In addition, it can be modified to use a proprietary syringe feature that prohibits its use with unauthorized syringes.
